A dystopian style retelling of Peter Pan.
I had very high hopes for this book! I am a huge fan of Peter Pan and hold a dear space in my heart for anything to do with Peter Pan, even if it is a retelling and not official. I feel that if I ever were to do a retelling of a classic (which I have no plans of doing as of now) it would be Peter Pan and Wendy I would write about. So, I feel that there is a chance that I went into this book with unrealistic expectations.
For one, this story takes place in the real world. It is a dystopian version of the world, set in the future, in a war zone that has caused a government collapse as well as the majority of the adults being wiped out. The lack of magic puts a bit of a damper on a lot of the elements of the classic version of the story, which may be part of the issues I had with this book.
It took a while for me to really get pulled into the story. It wasn't bad by any means, but it never really got to a 'can't put it down' point. I feel like the ending was rushed and there were quotes and iconic parts of classic Peter Pan thrown in random places that didn't make much sense in my opinion. This could be in part due to the non magic aspect I spoke of in the previous paragraph, but it felt cheap to me nonetheless.
Overall, I would give this book a 3 dragonfly rating.
I would advise, as a possible trigger warning, that there is a war theme throughout the story. While there are not any active war scenes in the book, they are in a abandoned warzone and war is discussed thoroughly throughout and the aftermath and devastation is a strong theme.
You may purchase the book here.
There is a second in the series now entitled Umberland, and a third entitled Ozland. .
A famous romance author that doesn't believe in true love!
This book had been in my Kindle for a while and I'm sad that I waited as long as I did to read it. It's a sweet romance with comedy, fun characters, and some unexpected twists along the way.
Aubrey finds herself in the position every author dreams of, her book is being turned into a movie and she gets to participate in the fun by joining the set. Though she quickly finds herself at odds with the director. As any author would be, she is very particular about her book coming to life exactly as she has it planned, but the director is using more of his own creativity to change the story and Aubrey finds herself unable to stand by and watch it happen. A few confrontations between the two lead to hostility that the presses pick up and Aubrey finds her dream hanging on the ledge and the producers are threatening to throw it overboard if the two of them can't figure out how to get along.
To repair the damage they've done, the studio whips up a publicity scheme romance between Audrey and the dreamy actor that plays her main character. Audrey is living the dream, but it's based on a lie, and she can't help but feel contempt over the whole situation. But, she's worked too hard for her career to reach this point, so she sucks her pride up, and follows suit to appease the people who hold her dreams in the palms of their hands.
The rest I'll leave you to read for yourself. I will say that there are several parts I thought would go differently than they did, which is always a good thing in my opinion! It's nice to not be able to guess what's going to happen next.
There are lots of fun characters in the book and they are well developed throughout the story. The romance is done in a good way and not corny, which is sometimes hard to find nowadays. I like the irony of a romance author that's been burned too badly in the past and doesn't even believe in what she writes about.
Overall, I give this book 4 1/2 dragonflies. It's a fun read with plenty of funny lines mixed into serious situations and accented with enough romance to make it nice but not overdone.

To say that my life has been hectic and unpredictable over the last several years would be the understatement of the century! We've grown our family, I stopped working, we've lost a child, added another child, moved several times, I've started and stopped a business.... It's been quite the whirlwind!
For those of you that are new to my name, I began releasing my work in early 2013. Shortly afterward, I lost a child and chose to withdraw from the author world for some much needed mental health space. Right about the time I decided to dive back in, I discovered I was pregnant again. So, I once again decided my focus needed to be on my family alone.
Now, here I am, about 4 1/2 years after I originally began trying to chase this author dream, we are done building a family, and my kids are about to be in school for part of the day. Which means I am finally at a point where I can do this!!
I am very excited to get back into the author realm and, once again, publish my works! To be honest, I've wanted to do this for over a year now. However, the thought of self-publishing terrified me! I've even been sitting on a brand new novel for a long time now because I didn't want to release it on my own.
When I first began the journey of publishing, I was with a great publishing company who has been uber supportive of knowing why I needed to step away and focus on my family.
I am delighted to announce that same publishing company, Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing, still has my heart and I am, once again, able to say I am a CHBB author!
Full release details are still being worked out, but beginning in October, my books will start to be re-released, and a new book is on its way as well! I also have a long list of new ideas/stories/worlds to work on to keep the books coming!
I am grateful beyond words to have been able to step back and focus my attention towards my family when I needed to most. It wasn't the easiest decision to make, but I know I made the right choice in doing so. I am equally ecstatic to be in a new season of life that allows me to put my heart back into my books and pump out words for my readers! Thank you for all of those who have stood by me throughout the last several, crazy years. Welcome to any new followers as well!
Stay tuned to this blog, as well my works page, for full release details as they come as well as cover reveals! <3
Much love! <3
