A famous romance author that doesn't believe in true love!
This book had been in my Kindle for a while and I'm sad that I waited as long as I did to read it. It's a sweet romance with comedy, fun characters, and some unexpected twists along the way.
Aubrey finds herself in the position every author dreams of, her book is being turned into a movie and she gets to participate in the fun by joining the set. Though she quickly finds herself at odds with the director. As any author would be, she is very particular about her book coming to life exactly as she has it planned, but the director is using more of his own creativity to change the story and Aubrey finds herself unable to stand by and watch it happen. A few confrontations between the two lead to hostility that the presses pick up and Aubrey finds her dream hanging on the ledge and the producers are threatening to throw it overboard if the two of them can't figure out how to get along.
To repair the damage they've done, the studio whips up a publicity scheme romance between Audrey and the dreamy actor that plays her main character. Audrey is living the dream, but it's based on a lie, and she can't help but feel contempt over the whole situation. But, she's worked too hard for her career to reach this point, so she sucks her pride up, and follows suit to appease the people who hold her dreams in the palms of their hands.
The rest I'll leave you to read for yourself. I will say that there are several parts I thought would go differently than they did, which is always a good thing in my opinion! It's nice to not be able to guess what's going to happen next.
There are lots of fun characters in the book and they are well developed throughout the story. The romance is done in a good way and not corny, which is sometimes hard to find nowadays. I like the irony of a romance author that's been burned too badly in the past and doesn't even believe in what she writes about.
Overall, I give this book 4 1/2 dragonflies. It's a fun read with plenty of funny lines mixed into serious situations and accented with enough romance to make it nice but not overdone.
There's is also a second book in the series (that I will read and review at a later date)
